Prom Season

10 Things You Must Know when Renting a Limousine for Proms

The horror stories told about limousine companies by prom-goers are numerous. Provided below is a list of items every parent and teen shopper should look for when selecting a limousine company. This list will assist and educate potential customers and reduce competition from sub-standard operators.

  1. Do business with a limousine company whose employees treat you with respect. Other than a strong "no alcohol" policy, the company staff and chauffeur should treat you with respect. This includes stocking the limousine with complimentary beverages, opening doors, addressing you appropriately and keeping the vehicle in a spotless condition.
  2. Before you rent the vehicle, get the limousine company owner/manager to put in writing the make, model and approximate year of the vehicle you are renting. Even a ten year old limousine may be spotless, but you deserve to be informed of what you are paying for, and renting.
  3. Make sure the limousine company is not overbooked and will arrive on time or 15 minutes early in a vehicle that has been professionally cleaned.
  4. Young clients tend to focus on the "glitz" and "glamour" of the vehicle, but the skill and professionalism of the chauffeur are just as important. If they are rude to you on the phone, the chauffeur may be rude to you in person.
  5. Do not pay more than 50 percent deposit. This is the normal required amount for any rental.
  6. A cheap limousine may not be a safe limousine. Bad companies often give prices that are too good to be true. Quality vehicles, professional chauffeurs, pleasant reservations all cost money. They old saying . . . "you get what you pay for" stands true in the limousine industry.
  7. Confirm the limousine company is properly insured. If you are renting the vehicle for an entire evening, make sure the limousine remains dedicated to your passengers.
  8. Confirm your chauffeur will be properly uniformed and he or she does not smoke in the vehicle. Most companies do not allow smoking, nor eating in the vehicles to preserve its luster.
  9. Ask the limousine company manager or owner if you can see the vehicle before renting it.
  10. Inquire with the Office of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Better Business Bureau, Department of Finance and Louisiana Public Service Commission regarding any complaints.
